Project Background

“Everyone wants to be perfect to win the hearts of vloggers.”

Vloggi is a platform that allows users to collect, edit, and share videos from various sources, including phones, cameras, and social media. Vloggi also offers a variety of features to make it easy for users to create engaging and professional videos.

I am a UX/UI designer, and I was asked by Jeremy, the Vloggi development team, to help improve some of the Vloggi flows that were felt to be lacking. This is where I got involved in this proud project.

Approach

"Even if a small number of users complain, it is also valuable advice.”

I discussed with the Vloggi team and studied the Vloggi product to understand the needs and wants of users, as well as identify areas that could be improved. I applied a User-Centered Design approach to ensure that my designs meet the needs of Vloggi users.

Discovery & Understanding

"Data Provided by the Vloggi Team"

I did not conduct any research, the Vloggi team already had the data. In meetings with the Vloggi team, I actively listened and understood the problems that needed to be solved. I then used this data to develop innovative solutions that meet the needs of Vloggi users.

In the research data provided by the Vloggi team, I found several issues that could hinder the user experience (UX) on the platform. These issues include:

  • The “clip” modal is too tall and cluttered, making it difficult to navigate and use.
  • Users must navigate to the “create video story” page and then select the clip again.
  • The template maker requires troubleshooting based on the login email address in order for users to access the template maker.
  • Project creation does not have clear steps or instructions, which could potentially confuse new users.

From these discussions, I was able to conclude that the objective of the project with Vloggi is that they want to improve the user experience by adding new features and improving the overall quality of their product so that it can have an impact on the business.

Solution Concept

“Refinemenets best journey for Vlogger to achieve their mission”

I facilitated the team to brainstorm. Solutions were determined through open and inclusive collaboration. Ideas were captured and objectively considered based on user needs, technical limitations, and cost.

Many ideas were collected, filtered based on impact priority and effort, and these are some specific solutions that all teams wanted:

  • Redesign the layout of the “clip” modal to be more structured and easy to understand. By redesigning the layout of the “clip” modal, information can be prioritized and grouped logically, so that users can easily find what they are looking for and what they need to do.

  • Add a “create story” button in the clip gallery, so users can select clips directly from the gallery when creating a video story. By adding a “create story” button in the clip gallery, users can quickly and easily select clips to create a video story.

  • Improve the template maker so that it is accessible to all users. By improving the template maker, all users can easily access the feature.

  • Simplify the project creation process and add clear step-by-step instructions. By simplifying the project creation process and adding clear step-by-step instructions, new users can easily create video projects.

These refinements are intended to provide the best journey for vloggers to achieve their mission. By making the platform more user-friendly and efficient, i can help vloggers create better videos and achieve their goals.

Designing Solution

"New Style or Reuse Existing Style for New Vloggi?"

The UX solutions for Vloggi that I designed with Figma include userflows, wireframes, lo-fi prototypes, high-fidelity UI designs (mockups), and prototyping and interaction design. I always involve the Vloggi team in the entire process, including interface design

I created multiple design versions with explanations of the benefits of each based on data. The Vloggi team then selected the design version they wanted. This allowed me to understand the team’s preferences and the needs of users.

Smooth UI design requires consistency. The existing pages were inconsistent, which had a negative impact on Vloggi’s UX. I continued to use the style guide, but I made adjustments to make it consistent. This shortened the UI development time and saved resources.

Testing & Iteration

“This is a Solution that Will Be Eternally Refined”

The results of the UAT (user acceptance testing) show that overall, the Vloggi improvement was well received by users. Around 86% of the total respondents praised the improvements made. However, there are some minor details that need to be fixed, such as typos and responsiveness issues.

I am implementing continuous iterations to improve the details of the flow and each page, as well as responsiveness on mobile and tablet. This is done to ensure that all changes made are feasible and have the potential to generate improvements.

Results

"The Data Sent by the Vloggi Team Produced Conversion Data that Made Me Happy"

After conducting various tests on the design improvements, and obtaining satisfactory results, I created design documentation and transferred it to the Vloggi development team. One year after launch, I received positive feedback, including:

  • Customer satisfaction increased by 68%
  • Engagement and Efficiency increased 10X from previous levels
  • Monthly revenue increased to $19,000
  • Vloggi won the StartCon Pitch worth $1 million
  • Vloggi won the Fishburners Marketing Tech pitch competition
  • Vloggi is increasingly trusted as an UGV innovator by customers from global brand giants
  • Vloggi’s company value increased to A$2.35 million

I am proud to have contributed to the improvement of the Vloggi platform, which is now a leading player in the industry. My contribution is evidence that I have helped Vloggi achieve the desired improvements.
